Day 4 Oct. 10 (drafted Oct.11)
Total: $65,889.00
Sunday is resurrection day, a mini-Easter. It is a day to remember that God makes all things new. This morning was rich!
- A confirmation class from Auburn UMC joined me this morning. We shared the story of Ms. Christy and what it would be like to not have electricity for five years! How would we cook? How would we have hot water? How would we get around without light at night? How about keeping food cold? What really got them was not being able to play video games. Yes, 6th graders, they are.
Our conversation shifted to using our prayers, presence, gifts, and service. We reflected on how the harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few. It was a bit chaotic but overall fun sharing with these kids.
- Shortly after, my Sunday School class joined me at the shack. Jesus had unique healing where the woman bleeding secretly touched the hem of his robe and was healed. We thought about her situation, her struggles financially and socially. What laws did she break in that day to get access? How was she struggling for support and in what ways was she exploited? These are some overarching reasons for how poverty begins and is manifested.
- I was grateful for visitors who mean so much. Elizabeth who serves on our board, Aimee who is a prior summer site leader, Nick from ARM@AU, Barbara and Pete Miller-former board members, and Graydon also from ARM@AU. These friends continue to support ARM and kingdom work.
- Finally, Ms. Mary came to mind. Ms. Mary is one of the folks we served during the tornado and this summer. She is a foster parent for a child with extreme autism. Literally, she is a saint! Groups have re-roofed her home and stabilized it from any storm. Through her time with our youth groups, she has given them insight into special needs children and looking after others.
Overall, a great day in the shack! Thanks for all the meals, prayers, and visits! You can help us keep up the fundraising by sharing this story and encouraging people to give! Thanks so much and until tomorrow.
Extend love, build more,
Lisa
