John 17:18 “As you sent me into this world, I am sending them into the world.” Jesus prays just before his crucifixion preparing for the disciples to be without him. He prays for their unity, spirit of love, and to model how he ministered since calling them to follow him.
We are called to go. We are the sent ones. We are called to invite and show people how to follow Jesus. We are called to serve with the marginalized and help them live in community with Jesus and others. If we the Church are not on the forefront of loving and serving our neighbor, who will be? That is one reason why we serve our neighbors through home repair.
Faces of Restoration focus: A few weeks ago we served with Ms. Caldwell and temporarily patched her roof. She is fighting through stage three cancer and her roof is leaking. Furthermore, her windows no longer seal making it more difficult to heat and cool her home. It will take over $20K to repair her home therefore way beyond the meager social security income she receives.
Last night went well and a relatively easy night in the shack. No crazy stories. The good news was the number of students stopping by to ask questions about ways to serve and plug in with home repair. This morning, my Sunday School class came and talked through being in the world and not of the world. We talked through what it means to be sent and reach out in love in grace. Today, we have Ms. Rena Willis and Mrs. Judy Jones sitting with us and will later host a Wheel Chair Ramp Building Clinic. It will be a fun afternoon!
Our goal is $100,000 to repair 10 homes. So far, you have raised $57,200, and a new total will be announced later this evening. That means five homes are sponsored—just five more to go! Let’s see what God will do today!
If you are local, come out and bring your children to paint on the shack! We’ll share about the ministry, why we are living here, and why we are to serve.
