Veterans are one of the most at-risk populations for having affordable homes that are warm, safe and dry.
How can you help provide a home for two veterans in the upcoming year?
#GivingTuesday is almost here and you can be a part of this massive outpouring of generosity across the nation by helping provide homes for our nation’s heroes!
Veterans like Ron. I met Ron while serving with the Tuskegee Veterans Hospital. He was one of 73 in a PTSD and substance abuse treatment program. Upon graduation from the program, his next step was to find affordable housing. This is where his challenges resurfaced. There were not any affordable homes in Tuskegee that were close to the community and amenities like the grocery store, pharmacy, and post office and that would also help him access the services provided by his VA.
As a veteran and using Tuskegee as my VA, this is very close to my heart. The complexities of veterans who have severe medical conditions like PTSD and then self medicate leads to significant challenges and complexities. Steady employment and having a stable income is complicated when the costs of housing are also out of reach. Many can spend over 50% of their income on rent and have no savings for purchasing a home.
Your gift on #GivingTuesday helps veterans like Ron. It will be matched with mission volunteers and provide the materials to help complete renovations on converting a house into a duplex. This provides two small apartments for local veterans! Imagine the joy of two veterans having an affordable home that is in a neighborhood that is safe and with a rich history. Imagine the care and concern they feel as they continue to thrive in their community!
Thank you for your gift and support of America’s heroes!
