I remember being a young student in high school wanting to change the world. So many things in our world seemed to be broken and in need of Christ’s redemptive power. AIDs was new, frightening and ominous. We were coming out of a cold war era and threats of nuclear holocaust still gave me nightmares. People were hungry, cold, and hurting. I wanted to change the world. Shortly thereafter,  I got to Auburn, became involved in the AU Wesley Foundation, and was engaged in hands- on ways to be in ministry; mostly through home repair and ministry with children. I continued to dream and to hope!

After leaving Auburn and moving to West Alabama, the ideas of a home repair ministry which had been planted at Auburn were now being cultivated. Through reading, praying, and some special mentors, we developed a plan to begin ministering to families through home repair and a volunteer based camp.

With every idea, there is a plan waiting to be developed. Undergirded by a God given passion and the tools to make it happen, we believe the next wave of students and young adults are the vehicles for the next ministries. We want to be the place where they can explore and investigate these ideas and passions for change and to make things right.

That is why I am excited by Lead UP! This weekend event in Tuskegee will allow youth to explore what keeps them up at night, what fills them with a righteous anger, and more so;  what to do about it! Partnered with the Holy Spirit, other followers, and a heart to make a difference, we will help students turn an idea into action. The event begins Friday April 1 and ends at noon on April 3rd. Details can be found at this link. Registration has begun and we have 20 slots available. Rev. Jeremy Steele, Deaconess Susan Hunt, and the ARM staff will be leading this ministry, leadership event. The cost is $65 covering meals, housing, and project materials. Spread this to your youth and partner with us to make a difference!

Looking forward to seeing you there!
