jeremiah

Jeremiah Bryan, a 2015 graduate of Auburn University from Lafayette, AL, served as a construction coordinator on our 2015 summer staff. He now serves as our full-time Construction Supervisor. We asked if he would share a memorable story from his time of ministry this summer and he kindly obliged. Read on to see how God surprised Jeremiah in the midst of a long day of home repair ministry.

Over the summer there were many memorable moments. When one does this kind of work it makes you think, “Is it worth it and am I really making a difference?” Around the 5th week of the summer, I had my “this is it” moment when I saw how God was working in ways I could not see.

I was working with a family in the Beauragard area to fix their hot water pipe. Previously, the hot water in the shower would run constantly any time the water was turned on – making their hot water unusable. They needed a way to turn the hot water on and off. After working for what felt like forever, which in reality was only three hours, I finally got the water to stop running. It took a lot of patience – and a lot of faith – to get it to finally stop.

While I was cleaning up from working, one of sons of the homeowner stopped me to ask a question that I didn’t see coming. He wanted to know when to have faith. His question caught me off guard, but after thinking for a few seconds I told the son that you have to have faith on faith. In other words, faith is about taking risks when you hear God calling. Faith is about taking steps toward God and trusting that God will keep God’s promises.  I told him I did not know if I was going to be able to fix the pipe leaking, but I had to have faith that it would stop if I took the step of trying to fix it.

After our talk, the son asked me for a New Testament Bible. I told him I would give him one with the Old Testament too so he could read the great stories of faith. It was such a pleasure to give him that Bible. Afterwards we prayed together.

So that was my moment of the summer. How has God surprised you lately? What steps of faith is God asking you to take?
