Most of the time when our groups come to visit, they are eager to minister with the families and bless the families. They talk about sharing their faith and their stories so that they may fill our families with hope and love. La Porte came no less eager and excited. Each youth had highlighted a passage of scripture meaningful to them and over the week shared with Ms. Lillian.
On some special occasions, the tables turn and our homeowner ministers to the groups. This became Nathan’s experience. Towards the end of the week he flipped his Bible to Psalm 47 ready to share. His heart had been softened over the week and he felt there was something special and divine about the faith of Ms. Lillian. Although simple, it was contagious and infectious. As he began to read, a gust of wind passed through the living room and blew the pages leafing them over to Psalm 51. He scanned the text seeing phrases like ” Have mercy on me, O God, a Sinner” and “Create in me a clean heart O’Lord, renew a right spirit within me“. And in that brief moment, the revelation of Christ, His grace and mercy made sense and Nathan turned his life over to Jesus. Standing there with Ms. Lillian, he now had a calm and knowing assurance that God was for him and he desired to now follow.
Our final night of sharing was indeed rich as the youth recounted their stories, what they learned, and how they might grow more in Christ. To God be the Glory! His steadfast love endures forever.
