Our mission is all about servant leadership. We do what we do so others can have the opportunity to extend Christ’s love in practical ways with our home repair and children’s ministries and grow as disciples of Jesus. Our youth mission camp every summer is our prime time for servant leadership! But, getting ready for our summer mission teams to serve takes a large group effort!
That’s why we were so blessed a few weeks back on Saturday April 14 by our friends from St. Mark UMC of Anniston, Troy First UMC, and the Auburn student chapter of the American Concrete Institute (ACI). Everyone came together at the Tuskegee Mission Hub (aka Tuskegee First Methodist church and parsonage) to help us prepare the facilities for our summer mission teams. We’re so thankful for their hard work, sacrifice, and commitment to serving others!
The Troy First UMC team focused their efforts on the parsonage which hosts our summer interns, fall/spring break mission teams, and several special events throughout the year. They replaced the vinyl tile in the kitchen with a beautiful vinyl plank floor! A few others on the team built a new rack in our tool shed for storing sheets of plywood, drywall, and paneling. We were very impressed with their craftsmanship and so thankful for these much-needed repairs and improvements!
Our friends from St. Mark UMC served in several ways at Tuskegee UMC. Some repaired flooring in the fellowship hall, some helped with landscaping, others “deep cleaned” in the kitchen, bunkrooms, and bathrooms, while others helped with flooring in the kitchen.
Last but not least, the Auburn chapter of ACI poured a new concrete pad at the base of the Tuskegee UMC fellowship hall steps! The ground at the bottom of the steps was washing away, which made for a very high and unsafe first step up. The pad corrected that issue and will enhance the longevity of the stairs and walkway. The concrete was provided by Bailey-Harris Construction of Auburn!
Our day of cleaning, repairing, and pouring concrete together exemplified how we are called to not only serve but to serve so that others might serve too! We’re so thankful for everyone who helped us prepare for youth mission camp 2018 and we’re so excited for our interns and teams to arrive in just a few weeks!
