The Power of $25
How did you remember Veterans Day yesterday? Did you wave a flag? Did you post encouraging thanks on Facebook or on email? Did you contact someone you know personally? Did you completely forget?
What is the point of Veterans Day? To thank someone who has served or is serving our nation… to say thank you for the gift of freedom we have.
Martin Luther King in his sermon titled, The Drum Major Effect, was speaking about the importance of serving and thinking of others. He equated this to the highest form of “greatness”. He then went on to say that “everyone can be great because everyone can serve”. Taken into that context…everyone can be a veteran if everyone serves. And what freedoms might you be preserving?
1) In our context of home repair ministry, you free someone from many situations. Making expensive repairs or just watching something get worse and worse over time. Condensation in a wall without insulation eventually gets eaten up with black mold and is not only ugly and gross but causes sickness. Repairing the wall frees a person from unnecessary sickness.
2) Simple fact, the elderly get scammed…all the time. Take Ms. Robinson who wanted to have her roof fixed. She was told by a company that they would repair her roof for $2100, that she could file on her home owner’s insurance and get her money back. So what do you think happened when she gave them $2100? Did she go outside and gaze upon a beautiful new roof guaranteed to keep her warm and dry for several years to come? Sorry-the scoundrels took her money-and several other elderly families, and filed bankruptcy. Scam company…happens all the time. Your care frees someone from “people predators”.
Your gift of service is a form of greatness and is no less than we veterans who have done that for our “country” and citizens. When you serve your neighbor and those in your community-you are equally preserving our freedoms and our dignity not only as citizens of our country but of our world. You can be great, because you can serve… Jesus said the “greatest among you is the one who serves”.
Pretty simple in concept. Will we follow through?
Go be great today!
Blessings!

Oh-and the phrase “the power of $25?” Well if everyone that gets this will pass it on and help spread the word for a $25 donation if they haven’t been able to give yet-we’ll accomplish our goal!
