The Vote is In! Wrapping Up-No More Shacks Close: November 5, 2024
Total raised: $77,578
We have a match challenge for $3000. This means we will double your gift! The challenge runs through noon on November 6.
The final day at the shack felt heavenly. Not only was the weather good but some of our pastor friends and colleagues stopped by! Rev. Cory Smith of Auburn UMC and Rev. Ashley Davis who is on staff with the UMC joined us for an hour and we had insightful conversations about mission and ministry. Joe Davis also stopped by and checked in. Joe, as you may recall, started with ARM as a student in 2005 and later served as our Director of Ministry Operations from 2014-2019.
Visitors from the Lee County Literacy Coalition joined us for a few hours. COL(R) Erich Babbitt provided breakfast and our Board Chair, Dr. Cathey Donald, visited for a bit. I was also pleasantly surprised to see an old friend, Nikki Zeaser Mueller, stroll by with two of her little ones. Nikki served with ARM from 2012-2013 as a summer construction coordinator and student construction intern. Overall, what a wonderful day and it ended on a high note.
Faces of Restoration focus: Going home is always rewarding after such intensive days. A true shower, the comfort of my bed, and not having to walk outside to get to a restroom seem like luxuries. Just thinking about the days of outhouses makes me incredibly grateful for indoor plumbing and modern advancements!
As I began washing all my clothes and bedding and taking a shower in a real shower, I thought again of what I’ve seen with homes in Alabama. I can recall where bathtubs are used to wash clothes. Memories of elderly women who can’t get into a bathtub safely sharing experiences of sponge bathing to stay clean. Some families had water heaters no longer working and therefore heated up water on the stove to pour into a bathtub to sponge bathe. Yes…this still happens. Living in the shack reminds me of these homeowners and even going home makes me consider the struggles of so many.
Again, your dollars matter! Your gift of time serving with these families through home repairs matters.
So far you have raised $77,578 towards $100,000. This means seven and a half (7 ½) homes are sponsored! Just two and half (2 ½) more to go! If you have not given yet will you consider it now?
