Day 6 (Wednesday recap)- Throw off the blanket…

As Alabama weather would have it…I went from shivering to a deep need for sunscreen. Last night I had to throw off the blankets. No complaints just observations.

Highlights from yesterday:

– Lots of guests hanging out!!!! We had a great crew come yesterday to visit. This included Mr. Paul Scrantz from our board, Rev. Judd and Libba Stinson who are pastors in the Auburn area, Rev. Brian Miller, pastor of Aldersgate UMC Montgomery, Rev. Sarah Goolsby, the Adult Education director at Auburn UMC, the children’s ministry team from AUMC, Keith Foster, the Mission’s Coordinator at AUMC, and Mr. Scott Middleton and his family. He and his son Mark, slept in the shack last night. Scott is also on our board.

– We wrapped up our campus workshops yesterday and Alabama Arise spoke about the legislative efforts that benefit low income families. We discussed the need for funding the Alabama Housing Trust fund, limiting predatory lending such as pay day loan establishments, the need for a moratorium on the death penalty in Alabama, and many other legislative needs.

– I was visited by the Mustache Guy, Lucas Trible, the unofficial mascot of Auburn. He literally came running by. He is the youth director at Mt. Zion UMC in Smith’s Station and will be going to seminary after graduation. He will be at the shack today from 3:30-4:30.

– A large number of donations came in yesterday-well over $12,000! It was an exciting time!

– The ARM of AU student group completed their display and promotion of ARM on campus.

– We had quite a few painters beautifying the shack yesterday so it is looking pretty good. We also had some discipleship groups come by last night. I spoke to a group of 7th grade girls and had a small Bible study. Later, a group of high school guys came by and we talked about serving with Christ’s heart.

Now our energy shifts to Saturday which is Make  A Difference Day. This annual, national day of service will have hundreds of thousands of people serving throughout the US. ARM is hosting over 100 volunteers. We will serve with 11 families and work on 2 community projects in Lee and Macoun counties. Our theme is called “No Reserve”. I believe this is fitting for our context as we become fools for Christ and sell out for the ministry.

Thanks again to all of those who are giving and spreading the word! Looking forward to another awesome day and praying to raise our $19,500 to meet our goal!

Blessings from the Shack!
