No More Shacks Start of Day 3: November 2, 2024 Auburn Game Day
It was a wonderful evening and day as we finished our second day and rounding out our third! So many visitors stopped by asking great questions and asking about ARM and how to plug in. Several children came out to paint the shack and learn ways to serve and love our neighbors in Jesus’ love. They learned what it means to make a home warm, safe, and dry.
In the evening, my mom and aunt arrived from central Florida to join me and give some support! Bringing my dog, Starbuck, we enjoyed time visiting and catching up. This was just in time as students from Auburn High School’s Fellowship of Christian Students came out to visit and learn more about serving. They are passionate and dedicated to helping others and are looking for more ways to serve with ARM in the future. We enjoyed sitting by the fire, making smores and fellowshipping together.
Today was game day for Auburn. Lots of foot traffic gave us opportunities to share the ministry and why we are staying in shacks. ARM@AU had a smashing fundraiser for game day. Literally. Using a van we needed to sell for parts, they set up a fundraiser to vandalize and smash a van as Auburn faced Vanderbilt. Clever, right? Adding to the total, they raised over $200. Finally, two children made lemonade and ran a lemonade stand after the game generating another $100. What a wonderful afternoon!
Faces of Restoration focus: Today we highlight our friends, James and Linda Baker. They live outside of Opelika and are such sweet spirits. Industrious, they have been building their home from the ground up for many years. However, with limited funds, they developed problems along the way. Groups have helped repair siding and install new insulation, rebuilt a set of stairs going to a second level, and rebuilt part of a room. Renovations are complete and our last task is to install an HVAC system. Currently, they have an old wood-burning stove and a small air conditioner that cannot keep up with the extremes in temperature.
The Bakers are very servant-hearted and hard workers. They continue to share love with others, thoroughly enjoy praying with us, and reflect deeply on how God is so core to their lives. They also continue to inspire our young volunteers.
So far you have raised $56,844. That means 5 ½ homes are sponsored! Just 4 1/2 more to go!
